There is no charitable registration number on my official donation receipt from the Libraries Foundation: is my receipt valid?

Yes. The New Brunswick Public Libraries Foundation is a qualified donee recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) as Her Majesty in right of the Province of the New Brunswick. Therefore, the Libraries Foundation does not need a charitable registration number in order to issue official donation receipts that are valid for income tax purposes.

Even though receipts issued by the Libraries Foundation do not include a charitable registration number, they are still recognized by the CRA and offer the same tax benefits as receipts issued by charities that have a charitable registration number.

Can I support my local library through the Libraries Foundation?

Yes! The Libraries Foundation accepts cash donations in support of collection development for all public libraries in NB. If you give to the Libraries Foundation and ask that your donation go to support your local library, then 100% of your donation will be used to purchase books and other materials for your library.

The Province of New Brunswick will also match your donation, effectively doubling the impact of your generosity. Learn more about how you can Double your gift!

You may also be able to donate directly to your local library. Every public library in New Brunswick is unique. Some libraries accept cash donations and hold fundraising events, while others do not. Your library will be able to tell you more about how you can support them directly if you wish to do so. However, your donation will only be matched by the Province when you donate through the Libraries Foundation.

Why should I give to libraries if I already support them with my taxes?

Your donation allows libraries to offer a quality of service that would not be possible with government funding alone. For more reasons, please see our Why Give page.

Can I leave a gift to the Libraries Foundation in my will?
